The Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute (LTRI) of Sinai Health, a University of Toronto-affiliated biomedical research centre, is recruiting an emerging leader in the area of Developmental and Stem Cell Epigenetics. The appointment will be for a Principal Investigator (rank equivalent to Assistant Professor).
We seek applicants that will develop innovative, outstanding and independent programs in Developmental and Stem Cell Epigenetics. Topic areas include, but are not limited to: germline biology and fertilization; early development and pluripotency; embryonic stem cells, lineage commitment; morphogenesis; organogenesis; adult stem cells; regeneration; targeted differentiation; regenerative medicine. Candidates are expected to approach these areas from the perspective of Epigenetics, broadly defined. This includes, but is not limited to: studies of DNA methylation; histone modifications; enhancer function; regulation of transcription; higher-order chromosome organization; nuclear dynamics; small and long RNA interactions with chromatin; environment-epigenome interactions; transgenerational inheritance. Experimental biologists using traditional model systems, be it vertebrates or invertebrates, as well as new model systems, are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will join the LTRI, whose faculty members are internationally renowned for their work in developmental and stem cell biology, epigenetics, signalling networks, cancer biology, structural biology, imaging, high throughput screening and proteomics. With numerous discoveries in basic and applied research in developmental biology, stem cell biology, pluripotency, epigenetics, systems biology, cancer, diabetes, genetic disorders and women’s and infants’ health, the LTRI is committed to excellence in health research and the training of young investigators. The LTRI is the top research institute in Canada in high impact publications and funding per principal investigator. The LTRI provides a research-intensive environment with state-of-the-art and innovative core facilities that include the latest technology for short and long read deep-sequencing, proteomics, robotics, high-throughput screening and imaging that drive technology development. Sinai Health is also the home of The Centre for Phenogenomics, a state-of-the-art national facility for mouse models, and is a partner of Medicine by Design.
LTRI labs engage in productive collaborations within the Institute, Sinai Health, the larger University of Toronto community, and beyond. The University of Toronto has one of the most concentrated biomedical research communities in the world, including 9 academic hospital research institutes that are fully affiliated with the University.
Investigators at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute are appointed to independent positions equivalent to Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, depending on experience; preference for this opportunity will be given to individuals qualifying at the level of Assistant Professor. Investigators will be cross-appointed to an appropriate research or clinical department at the University of Toronto.
Successful candidates will hold a PhD and/or MD degree, with postdoctoral experience and an established record of research accomplishment as demonstrated by outstanding publications, presentations at international conferences, awards and accolades, as well as strong endorsement by referees of high international standing. The successful candidate will be expected to initiate and lead an innovative, independent, and externally funded, research program of the highest international calibre.
We offer competitive salary and start-up packages commensurate with experience and qualifications (illustrative range between $120,000 and $140,000).
